Janet Bull, MD

Janet Bull, MD, MBA, FAAHPM, served as Chief Medical Officer at Four Seasons until 2023 and held a consultant assistant professorship at Duke University Medical Center for 15 years. She is a Fellow of the AAHPM, board-certified in hospice and palliative medicine, and holds a hospice medical director certification.
Janet has authored or co-authored several papers on palliative care and quality data reporting. She played a key role in developing the Quality Data Assessment Collection Tool (QDACT), co-directed the Global Palliative Care Quality Alliance, and was a founding member of the Palliative Care Research Cooperative. She is the Program Director of the Palliative Care Immersion Course and a principal at Four Seasons Consulting Group, which provides consulting services in hospice, palliative care, and research.
Throughout her career, Janet has received numerous accolades. She was awarded the Sharon O. Dixon Award in 2007, the Cunniff-Dixon Hastings Award in 2012, and the Josephina Magno Distinguished Physician Award in 2013. In 2014, she was recognized as one of the Top 30 Visionaries in the Field by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM). From 2014 to 2017, she served as Principal Investigator on the Center for Medicare Innovations Grant, demonstrating the value of palliative care.
Janet was President of the AAHPM in 2017 and continues to play a key role in the development of the Alternative Payment Model for Serious Illness Care as a core team member. Most recently, she was honored with AAHPM’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024.

Patricia Fogelman, DNP

Dr. Patricia Fogelman DNP, FAAHPM is a pioneering leader in innovative palliative care, known for transforming healthcare systems. As System Director of Palliative Medicine at Guthrie Clinic, she spearheaded initiatives that resulted in a 117% increase in consult volumes and tripled revenue within nine months. She developed the Fogelman Palliative Care Acuity Report to streamline early palliative care integration and led system-wide programs that improved care coordination and reduced hospital length of stay. Dr. Fogelman also pioneered telehealth access across multiple campuses, expanding care to rural and underserved populations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she created the system’s Crisis Standards of Care, led palliative care efforts in the ICU, and established telemedicine platforms to support affected communities.
One of only four non-physician department heads of Palliative Medicine in the U.S., Dr. Fogelman is shaping the future of medical leadership. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Columbia University, along with a BS/MS in Nursing and a BA in Psychology.
Currently, as Clinical Director of Palliative Medicine at Mount Nittany Medical Group, Dr. Fogelman drives innovation, leading both inpatient and outpatient services and launching a cutting-edge embedded Supportive Oncology program. She has also developed an integrated curriculum for resident and nursing education, shaping the next generation of providers. Dr. Fogelman co-authored the American Thoracic Society’s policy on “Palliative Care Early in the Care Continuum among Patients with Respiratory Disease” and co-hosts the “Breathe Easy Podcast,” where she explores the intersection of pulmonary and palliative care.
A Vice Co-Chair for the Society for Critical Care Medicine’s Clinical Policy Task Force on End of Life Care, Dr. Fogelman has received numerous accolades, including the 2023 DNP of the Year award from the Pennsylvania Nightingale Society. A Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, she holds board certifications in family, hospice, and palliative medicine. Her clinical interests include the integration of Palliative Medicine with advanced cancer, lung disease, and dementia.

John Morris, MD

John Morris is passionate about helping people and organizations develop excellent palliative care programs. His role is to teach, mentor and develop great palliative care clinicians and leaders as well as develop palliative care organizations that succeed. John’s expertise in building strong foundations for new programs, creating dynamic teams and his thoughtful mentoring have been key for success.
As a pulmonologist and critical care doctor, John witnessed just how stressful serious illness can be for patients and families. He started working for Four Seasons part time in 2003 to help start palliative care programs in the hospitals. He left pulmonary practice to work full time for Four Seasons as Medical Director of Palliative Care in 2005. He has worked with 5 hospital systems to develop palliative care in the hospitals and in the community. Four Seasons now serves palliative care patients in 11 counties in WNC. Four Seasons has 2 palliative care clinics and a strong home and NH palliative care program.
John has worked with several organizations to develop and improve palliative care services including Four Seasons, Pardee Hospital, Park Ridge Hospital, Transylvania Regional Hospital, Mission Health System, Greenville Health System, Palliative Care of SC, Catawba Regional Hospice and UNC Health System.
John is co-director of the Palliative Care Immersion Course. This experiential learning experience for clinicians uses innovative techniques and role play to teach clinical palliative care skills to a national audience several times yearly. John also teaches palliative care program development in Four Seasons Center of Excellence. Over 30 organizations have attended these programs since inception in 2010. John received the Sharon O. Dixon Award for Clinical Excellence presented by Carolina Center for Hospice and Palliative Care in 2011.
In 2016 John helped co-found Four Seasons Consulting Group (FSCG), a coaching and consulting company enabling health systems, palliative care programs, post-acute providers, and hospice programs to learn best practices and the systems necessary to produce those best practices in their own organizations.
John is a founding member of Teleios Collaborative Network as Chief Medical Officer for Palliative Care.
John has a Masters in Leadership from the Thayer Institute.

Christopher Jones, MD

Christopher A. Jones, MD, MBA, HMDC, FAAHPM is an Associate Professor and the Clinical Vice Chief for Palliative Care for Duke Health in Durham, North Carolina. After finishing medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, he trained in General Internal Medicine at Brown University and completed fellowships in Geriatric Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine (HPM) at Duke University.
His interest in the business of medicine, specifically within HPM, led him to complete a Master’s of Business Administration degree at East Carolina University. Dr. Jones is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Palliative Medicine and has co-authored more than 60 academic papers. He consults nationally, making billing and coding accessible and hopefully interesting for providers in all of medicine’s specialties

About the Palliative Care Immersion Course:
The Palliative Care Immersion Course is a cornerstone of Four Seasons Consulting Group’s dynamic educational offerings. It is meticulously developed and rich in content, enhancing attendees’ competencies and knowledge in palliative care.
In this modern virtual learning environment, instructors provide didactic sessions, facilitated role play, critiques, and situational modeling of mock patient-provider interactions. These activities are designed to engage and challenge palliative care providers at all levels.
The course curriculum addresses clinical issues such as symptom management, ethics, goal setting, and communication techniques. It also helps participants understand critical factors that impact the financial model of palliative care programs. Education throughout the course focuses on improving sustainability through effective billing and coding, setting visit expectations, and transitioning patients to hospice.

The course is designed for Physicians, Advanced Practice Practitioners, Nurses, Social Workers, and Chaplains who are either new to the field of Palliative Care or seeking to refresh or advance their skills. Four Seasons Consulting Group expects participants to leave the course with enhanced prognostication, business skills, and a solid understanding of complex case management.
Courses are held virtually each year in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. Each course runs Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM EST daily.

Accreditation: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) through the joint providership of the Mountain Area Health Education Center and Four Seasons. FSCG hopes that everyone who registers for the course will be able to attend; however, FSCG understands that unforeseen circumstances do occur. FSCG’s Palliative Care Immersion Course Cancellation and Refund policy is as follows:
Palliative Care Immersion Course registrants cancelling 6-10 days prior to the scheduled start date of the course may reserve a seat for the next scheduled course, registration fees may be transferred to another individual or, upon written request, may receive an 80% refund minus any fees associated with original method of payment.
Registrants canceling 0 – 5 days prior to the course will not receive a refund. The refund and cancellation policy will not be waived. The Registrant may reserve a seat for the next scheduled course, or registration fees may be transferred to another individual.
In the event FSCG cancels a course due to unforeseen circumstances, FSCG will reschedule Registrants for a future course or, upon written request, refund the cost of registration. However, FSCG does not assume responsibility for any additional costs, charges, or expenses; to include, charges made for travel and lodging.
